This is an opportunity for you to Help Us Live In Africa. There are many purchases we have to make for our life and ministry in Tanzania. You can be a part by choosing to directly sponsor one or more of these purchases. We have received sponsorships for small items like sunscreen (~ $5) all the way up to a 1000-watt generator ($750) for Jonathan’s recording projects in remote villages. There’s no minimum or limit as to how you can sponsor!

This idea gives our partners an extremely specific way to get directly involved with us in Africa. The program provides a personal connection to the work God is doing through us in the lives of the Tanzanian people.

You can find a complete list of our needs on our website under NEEDS on the navigation toolbar. Sponsorships can be tax-deductible.

PostHeaderIcon Don’t hold Bach

I discovered yesterday that I can worship to classical music. I mean I can really disconnect from the world and connect with God by listening to my good friend Johnny Bach. I also admire the gifts he has given people like musicians. The ability to create. I’m glad I discovered these particular creations.

  This is my favorite

It is French for ‘I am finished’ and as for my equipment testing, I am exactly that.  It has taken me about 2 weeks to get to this point when I originally thought it would only be a few days.  The overarching theme to my time has been kinks galore.  Most of it was centered around getting sound from my Mackie Onyx 1220 mixer to record in Adobe Audition 2.0 running in a Windows environment in an application running on my Mac.

Sparing us both the details, last night my goal was accomplished.  I successfully recorded an audio sample out of Fiddler on the Roof… it was what I had been watching most recently on my personal media player.  Bad news was that woke up yesterday with a lot of nasal congestion and a sore throat.  I was so so most of the day but when I woke up this morning… yuck.  I’ve been sneezing and sniffling all day and have had some other cold-like symptoms.  What’s up with getting a cold in June????

With testing now behind me, hopefully I can tend to the website a little more.

PostHeaderIcon The Start of My Prayer Overhaul

There’s all the difference in the world between feeling guilty for something and feeling accountable to Someone.
- Andy Stanley

A big weak area in my life is my prayer. I feel I really don’t know how to pray and that’s why I’m hitting the reset button on how I approach it, how I do it, and why I do it. A revamp. I’m dropping what I think I know and am striving to rebuild my whole take on it from the ground up. This sermon by Andy Stanley is helping me a ton. It is the 1st in a 3-part series.

Listen to Andy’s Sermon here.

I’m currently testing all of my equipment and hit a lil snag that has had my computer disabled.  I’ll give you the fun techie details later.  I just wanted to post this note in the meanwhile.

Today’s good: The successful tests so far have sounded exceptional.  I can’t wait to put all this equipment to use over there!

PostHeaderIcon This Exorbitant Sum

Alexander the Great was once asked by one of his great generals if the great ruler would pay for the wedding of the general’s daughter. He said, “I’ve been a very faithful general, I don’t have much money, and my daughter is getting married.  Would you be willing to pay for her wedding?” Alexander agreed and sent the general to speak to the treasurer.
The general went to the treasurer and asked for an absolutely enormous sum of money far more than the amount for any wedding the treasurer had ever heard of. The treasurer asked the general to wait for a few moments while he went to discuss the money with Alexander.
The treasurer went to Alexander and exclaimed, “You are not going to believe the amount of money this general is requesting!” His expectation was his ruler would be furious and full of rage. Instead, Alexander had a big smile on his face and said to the treasurer, “Give it to him.” The treasurer replied, “Why?! Why?!” Alexander said, “Don’t you understand what a great honor this is? By asking me for this exorbitant sum, he shows he believes I am both rich and generous.”

Probably the most common characteristic of our preparation for lives as missionaries is the abundance and willingness of God. More than often, in BIG areas of our lives and without even asking, God has poured His wealth onto us.  Don’t confine the word wealth. His resources reach infinitely further than merely money.  I’m talking extensive detail here all the way down to the fire in our hearts.  Yes, that is definitely from Him.

I heard the above story this morning in a message by Timothy Keller.  It made me realize that God has done most of the really big things in our journey so far well before we even thought to ask about or for them.  What if we prayed in a sense of trying to keep up with Him?  I can’t imagine what He is waiting to unleash.  All that He has done and given to Dana and I has equipped us to really make an impact in the world around us in both Tanzania and in the States.  I wonder what it is going to be like when my stubborn self finally confidently treats my God as both rich and generous.

PostHeaderIcon McCall Florida Ripples

This past weekend we took a trip to Oviedo, FL to visit a church there. No, we’re not shopping for a new one. The commute would kill us anyway.

Below are two of the families that we got to know well and who got to know us well. You can see from the photos what a visit from Jonathan and Dana does to one’s mind…

Before Jonathan and Dana:

Wesley, Valerie, Chris, neighbor, Geany, and Genesis.

Jules, Annmarie, and Alex

After Jonathan and Dana: (but mainly it was Dana)

Today’s good: Gotta be that bottom picture! Told you guys I’d put it on our website! We love you. Thanks again for a great weekend.

PostHeaderIcon Andis Buzz Bath

Those are 3 words Teddy loves to hate as they all happened to him in that order a couple of nights ago. Andis is the maker of dog grooming clippers, buzz is the sound they make, and it was topped off with a bath to wash away all the stray hair. We have to take this route due to the lack of groomers (NONE!) in Tanzania. Haircuts are left up to Daddy.

Not too bad, huh?

Today’s good: We caught wind of a NICE (4×4, low miles, great condition) vehicle some other Wycliffe missionaries are selling in TZ.  I hope we’re able to get it.

I listened to a few podcasts today. This phrase by Andy Stanley stuck with me:

Everybody you lay your eyes on is somebody for whom Christ died.
