School and Business Closings List
This past week we had a good winter storm come through North Carolina that left everything outside covered in beautiful white snow. Dana and I both had doctor’s appointments that day so we were pretty tuned in to the television in search of local closings. Alphabetical and slow. So, we hopped online and checked out the Big Four broadcasting stations in Charlotte and discovered the vast difference in how each website had it’s list.
4. The worst… Fox Charlotte. It listed nothing that I could find. Maybe I overlooked it on their main page… you tell me…

3. The only reason WBTV didn’t rank last was because it had something… if you can even call it that.
2. WCNC had a decent user-friendly list.

1. The best source (by far) out of the four was WSOC TV 9. They not only had a name list with alphabet links but also told the county, time of closing, and time the info was submitted.
Hope this helps you if you live in the Charlotte region.

Kevin Kelly (cofounder of Wired Magazine) likes to point out that the Web is only a few thousand days old. The immaturity really shows in things like this. Thousands of local news outlets all need to deal with similar issues, but everyone seems to flounder around on their own. Our church is wrestling to put together a decent little web site. Same deal, thousands of churches really all need to do similar things. Most seem to flounder around. I’ve begun to work a bit with Wycliffe Associates lately. I am glad to report that their web stuff has been first rate so far! I am also impressed with The Task as a source for news on Wycliffe in East Africa.
