Yellow
Posted in General by: AngelaFor Alphabe-Thursday this week, the letter Y came pretty quickly and easily to me.
I am a cycling fan.
All of you cycling fans out there know where I’m going with this!
July is cycling.

Yellow is the best color in the Tour de France.
Why?
The leader is the only person who gets to wear yellow.
The yellow jersery

Why do you think Lance Armstrong’s Foundation – Livestrong – is all yellow?

The Livestrong manofesto (from their website):
We believe in life.
Your life.
We believe in living every minute of it with every ounce of your being.
And that you must not let cancer take control of it.
We believe in energy: channeled and fierce.
We believe in focus: getting smart and living strong.
Unity is strength. Knowledge is power. Attitude is everything.
This is LIVESTRONG.
We kick in the moment you’re diagnosed.
We help you accept the tears. Acknowledge the rage.
We believe in your right to live without pain.
We believe in information. Not pity.
And in straight, open talk about cancer.
With husbands, wives and partners. With kids, friends and neighbors. Your healthcare team. And the people you live with, work with, cry and laugh with.
This is no time to pull punches.
You’re in the fight of your life.
We’re about the hard stuff.
Like finding the nerve to ask for a second opinion.
And a third, or a fourth, if that’s what it takes.
We’re about preventing cancer. Finding it early. Getting smart about clinical trials.
And if it comes to it, being in control of how your life ends.
It’s your life. You will have it your way.
We’re about the practical stuff.
Planning for surviving. Banking your sperm. Preserving your fertility. Organizing your finances. Dealing with hospitals, specialists, insurance companies and employers.
It’s knowing your rights.
It’s your life.
Take no prisoners.
We’re about the fight.
We’re your advocate before policymakers. Your champion within the healthcare system. Your sponsor in the research labs.
And we know the fight never ends.
Cancer may leave your body, but it never leaves your life.
This is LIVESTRONG.

What a cool Y post! Lance Armstrong is definitely an inspiration to many. However, I hate that he broke up with Sheryl Crow the way he did and didn’t help her through her cancer struggles. (Sorry, I find other people’s lives more interesting than my own perhaps!)

We’ve been huge Tour de France fans ever since we unthinkingly took a holiday through France during the tour. Reckless tourists that we were, we didn’t book anything ahead. Every hotel everywhere we went was full to the brim, so we had some interesting/lovely experiences of pensions and rooms-over-the-bar. Great memories, and they all come back as we watch!

Great post. I had never heard of the Livestrong site. Thanks for sharing it with us. Have a wonderful day. Debbie

Amazing Y post! Thanks for spreading the word about the Livestrong Foundation, they do amazing work. I love their approach to fighting cancer, and am so thankful to have had their support and education to help my family in the past. Really, truly, excellent!

I don’t really watch the Tour de France as an avid fan other than to keep up with the news. Lance Armstrong, of course, has been a hero to all of us. I was totally unaware of the Livestrong Foundation, however, and I am so happy that you made me aware of it. What a wonderful and helpful organization. I will keep it in mind for myself and others.
At 65, I’ve done it! My poetry book – Life’s Journey by Carmen Henesy – is out on Amazon!
( Poems about the things that have been important to me in my journey through life, some humorous, some sad, some that may have meaning to you as well )

My sons have been watching Le Tour de France avidly. I am more of a casual follower. I didn’t know about the Livestrong Foundation, but I greatly admire their stand-up-and-fight-it manifesto!
July 8th, 2010 at 10:56 pm
The foundation is truly a wonderful one. this was a great reminder.
July 10th, 2010 at 12:13 am
What an inspirational post – I have never watched the race but I do know of Lance.

I have been supporting this foundation for some time now. It is such a wonderful organization.
This was a really inspiring link on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday’s letter “Y”!
Thank you for sharing this information with all of us.
It was really thought provoking!
Yippee for you!
You, of course, have an A+
