Monday Memories

Today, I am joining Gayle’s Monday Memories over at Planet M Files.

In April of 2005, my roommate – Karina and I joined a group going to Southeast India to do Tsunami relief. Karina and I had only lived together for about six months, and we barely knew of one another before we lived together. It was during this trip that she and I created a bond so unique that she will always hold a very special place in my heart. Here is she and I standing in the Indian Ocean.

Once we got to Madras/Chennai, the leaders sent us (girls) down to Pondicherry with a doctor to do medical missions to some bond servant communities. Right now, we Americans spend our time worrying about this recession, the stock market, home sales, and our jobs. In the sugar fields of Southeast India as a bond servant, well, I cannot begin to imagine what they worry about. It’s simply too much for me to wrap my mind around.

That is my Monday Memory for this week. My trip to India was much more than sugar fields and bond servants, but today, these people weigh on my on heart. We live in a very blessed country and have much to be thankful for!

Angela, I think that is so wonderful that you and your roommate participated in tsunami relief in India. Your post has such an important message about how incredibly privileged most of us are, and that we often take it for granted. It really is impossible for most of us to comprehend what peoples lives are like in other parts of the world. Thank you for the reminder of how blessed we are.

Also, thank you for participating in my first blog party! I hope you come back again next week!

There’s nothing like seeing something like that to change your whole perspective on things. Americans are so spoiled! I once visited a communist part of China and it’s something I will never forget. It was a real eye opener for a spoiled teenager! Thanks for sharing your memory with us! I enjoyed it!
